9a. COVID & Eligibility
The Government put temporary measures during the COVID-19 pandemic with respect to conducting right to work checks. There is no change to the lists of acceptable documents, and it remains an offence to knowingly employ anyone who does not have the right to work in the UK. However, the difference since 30th March 2020 is that checks can be carried out over video calls and the individuals can send scanned copies or a photo of the document(s) for checks, where their original documents cannot be physically checked in the normal way (e.g. due to temporary homeworking etc).
